Ingredients
1/2 kg beef (preferably buffalo meat) cut into medium pieces
To sauté
1 medium onion chopped
1/2 cup shallots sliced
1 big tomato chopped
1 tsp chilly powder
2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp fennel powder
3/4 cup thick coconut milk
To Pressure cook Beef
1 small onion sliced
3 tsp ginger garlic crushed
2 cardamoms
2 cloves
1 piece of cinnamon (2 inch )
salt as needed
1 small tsp chilly powder
2 small tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 cup water
To Temper
2 tsp coconut oil
5 shallots chopped
2 sprig curry leaves
Method
- Wash and drain beef pieces.Mix in with the ingredients given under 'pressure cook' section.Add water and pressure cook.Remember the beef will release enough water.After the first whistle,reduce the flame and cook for another 20-25 minutes depending on the type of beef you use.
- Now Heat oil in a deep skillet and sauté onion and shallots till they turn light brown.Add tomatoes and sauté for another 2-3 minutes till it mix up well with the onion mix.
- Now add the chilly,coriander and fennel powders and sauté till the raw smell leaves.
- Now mix in the cooked beef along with the water .Bring it to a boil.
- Add the coconut milk and simmer till oil appears over the top and curry gets some what thick.
- Heat oil in a small skillet and fry chopped shallots and curry leaves.Pour it over the curry.
- Serve with Puttu/rice/appam/bread..
*This curry tastes better with time.If you let it rest and flavours to blend,this is such a delicious curry to have..!
